My HR Experience

Talent Director for UK reporting to the Board 2011- 2013

Developed a new role to overhaul the global pipeline across the business. I focused the business on its graduate intake (c. 350 pa) and developed a blueprint for the UK business.

The result of this work was moving from 20th place to number 12 on the Times Top 100 list of graduate employers and changing the talent landscape for the business.

Talent Director for Commercial & Marketing reporting to the Board 2010-2011

Led the talent agenda for the division of 2500 employees.

HR Director for Commercial & Marketing reporting to Board 2007-2010

Led the HR agenda for the Commercial, Marketing, Corporate Purchasing, International Sourcing (Hong Kong) and HSC Service centre (Bangalore) division (2500 employees).

I led transformations on organisational design, restructuring, off shoring, leadership development and talent management.

My General Management Experience

Commercial Director for Tesco Telecoms reporting to CEO 2004-2006

Led a strategic overview during an exciting growth period where we invested c £500m in this new sector.

I advised on acquisitions, developed a new organisational design on the way Tesco was set up and led the people agenda. I was also responsible for the development of new fixed line telecoms business (Tesco Home Phone, ISP, and VoIP) as well as in store branded mobile hardware and mobile business – worth c. £500m revenue pa.

Director for Tesco Beauty and Baby Category 2002 – 2004

Led category turnover of £500m turnover - growing 20%.

Led breakthroughs on store concept, new product development, Tesco brand, launch of jewellery, media perceptions (Celebration of British Beauty Awards) and in store operations.

Director of Tesco Household Category 1999 – 2001

Led category turnover £1.2bn – growing 6% YOY

Led new EDLP strategy and implementation, launched new DIY/Paint/Storage/Utility areas into flagship Newcastle and got agreement to roll out into Extra formats, overhauled Tesco brand proposition resulting in favourable margin mix and share leadership. Achieved best people feedback in head office.

My Business Strategy/Change Management Experience

Director of Tesco Non Food Strategy and Planning 2001 - 2002

Led development of £6bn plan (was £3.5bn revenue) working across categories and divisions to set growth vision, targets and plans for business.

Tesco Customer Plan Programme Leader 1998 - 1999

Led a corporate step change project working with Gemini consultants to develop a new total corporate plan process. Worked with the Board to agree and then implement new Customer Plan for 01/02 that has continued subsequently.

My Marketing Experience

Head of Tesco Advertising and Publishing 1996 – 1998

Led corporate advertising across with a budget of c. £25m.

Developed and proved the Dotty campaign, changed media strategy from print to TV and radio with significantly improved cut through and effectiveness. Won the Marketing Society best advertising award, the Grocers best campaign and the IPA Advertising Effectiveness award in 1997.

Procter & Gamble Health & Beauty Care 1991 – 1996

Joined P&G Brand Management Graduate Recruitment Scheme Oct 1991.

Worked in hair care on Vidal Sassoon (Brand Manager) and Pantene Brands (Assistant Brand Manager). Led a number of product launches and developed c.25 hair care adverts that as the lead country were adopted globally. Also led various organisational capability initiatives around talent pipeline, women in leadership and advertising competency.

Patron of the Royal Academy of Arts.
